How to Talk to Kids About Palestine (For Educators & Caregivers)
Hannah will lead a presentation about the importance of talking about hard things with children in an age-appropriate way using an anti-bias/anti-racism education framework. She pulls on her own experience growing up as a second-generation immigrant and her expertise as a children’s book author.
Writing Resistance (For Teens & Adults)
Hannah shares her publishing journey and discusses why writing about her identity as a fat, queer, Palestinian woman is a form of resistance.
Arab Representation in Literature (For Teens & Adults)
Representation has never been more important, yet some groups are vastly underrepresented in publishing. Hannah talks about the dehumanization of Arabs in the media and those who are pushing back against these harmful narratives.
Book Bans & Censorship (For Teens & Adults)
Since her book was released, Hannah Moushabeck has experienced many instances of censorship and book banning, which resulted in actions by the ACLU and Pen America. In this talk, Hannah outlines the ways in which book bans and censorship are used to silence particular voices, disenfranchise us all, and the ways in which these actions affect our liberties and freedoms.
“Hannah came to speak with students about her family’s story, her journey to becoming an author, and the importance of using your voice to share your story. After hearing from her, students made connections to their own families’ experiences of diaspora, the value of family, and connection to culture. It helped them realize their individual power and agency to use their voice to tell their own stories.” —Kayla Hipp, Educator in Tacoma Washington
